FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why was this site created?
Since 2012 a group of federal and academic experts on coastal change, climate science, and sea level rise have voluntarily produced a report that outlines the latest sea level rise science and provides updated projections on what sea level change can be expected in the US. The most recent report was produced by a group of 24 scientists from 7 federal agencies and 3 academic institutions, called the Interagency Task Force on Sea Level Change.
After the publication of the 2022 report with the Companion Application Guide, this group of scientists wanted to do more to make research on sea level change accessible and usable for the public, without having to navigate numerous sources of information that may or may not be trustworthy, applicable to their use case, or understandable without an advanced science education. Thus the idea for this site was born–to deliver a joint resource that provides authoritative science-based information on sea level change in a usable, actionable, and understandable way for the entire United States on behalf of the U.S. Government.
